Get full images of text and drawings of all U.S. patents since the year 1790 from the PTO's site at http://www.USPTO.gov/patft/index.html. Note that this is not keyword searchable. Key word searching is only available for patents from 1976 to present, while pre-1976 is searchable only by classification.
A tiff viewer plug-in is required for viewing these patents. We recommend Tiffsurfer from http://www.visionshape.com.
Many other tiff file viewers are available at www.tucows.com. Use the search engine to locate the software by with search terms "tiff viewer" or tiff plugin" to find programs on the TuCows web site.
Especially interesting is http://www.tmsinc.com/prizm/ which has built in OCR. The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) feature makes it easy (If the image of the text is clear) to lift text from scanned document images without having to waste time re-typing.
