Obituary Of Flint Township, Michigan, formerly of Flushing, age 82, died Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, February 20, 1999 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Joyel W. Cole officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hougen Foundation, PO Box 2005, Flint, Michigan 48501-2005, a charitable fund established by Hougen in 1981 that has assets of about $2.6 million. Visitation 5-8PM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Hougen was born in Scepter, Saskatchewan on July 7, 1916 and was a resident of the Flint and Flushing area since 1947. He married Therese Y. Perrault on July 5, 1941 in New Rochelle, New York. He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Kettering in 1993 and was a former instructor at Kettering who began inventing products in hi basement during the 1950's. His company now manufactures tools used throughout the world. He was an avid bow hunter and fisherman. Mr. Hougen had a lodge in the Bentley area where he loved to feed and watch the animals. Mr. Hougen was financially supportive and was generous with his knowledge to many aspiring inventors in the Flint area. Surviving are his wife, Teri; sons, Douglas S. and wife Patricia of Ann Arbor, Victor L, of Swartz Creek, Randall B. and wife Lynn of Montrose, Bradley R. and wife Jackie of Durrand; grandchildren, Amber, Leslie, Karley, Holly, Autumn, Katie, Grant and Barry; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 cousins, Dick Hougen and Lillian Moir.
