Jack,
Truth is a defense to allegations of defamation. Does
anybody here really
thing ISC could succeed in a defamtion lawsuit? The case
would never be tried
- too many witnesses to support the defense of truth.

Mr. Berger, you can help your situation here

I have been too busy passing Mr. Berger's story on to my media
contacts to
address newsgroups yet. But I will get around to it
eventually.
I know you have a few media contacts of your own, how about
pitching an
exposé about invention promotion companies to your contacts?

It is important that anyone who receives a threatening
letter from invention
promotion firms post those letters to the forum. If you
have the ability it
would be best to OCR the document. If you do not have OCR
then duplicate
the letter on a word processor.
I will then create a web page for each offending company.
Potential clients
can then evaluate the merits or lack of merit for themselves,
based on .
My first reaction to this threat was to allow Mr. Berger a chance
to fold
and leave our game. But after reconsideration, I now
believe we should
immediately pursue journalists. For that reason I informed
the society of
Professional journalists of the current situation.
Mr. Berger's letter to Pal and conversations with FTC staff make
me think
that Mr. Berger needs an attitude adjustment. It is
my assessment that we
need to collectively tackle Mr. Berger. If Mr. Berger has
an once of good
judgment he will retire from this business.
I have a number of neat TV exposé show contacts. I would
like a show of
hands on who feels we should collectively ask these shows to look
into Mr.
Berger's activities. I will contact Mr. Nader, asking for his
support.
I am dropping all other activities today to systematically
contact all my
media sources. I ask that others who have media contacts do
the same.
If Mr. Berger escalates this matter further it is my intention to
bring this
issue to the attention of both the Nobel laureates and National
Inventors
Hall of Fame inductees who helped inventors defeat H.R.400/S.507,
with the
intent of them helping to get media attention in regards to
questionable
invention promotion companies. I would also ask former
patent
commissioners, the PTO, and other interested parties to join in a
concerted
effort to reign in companies like ISC.
Specifically, if there is a legal way to do so, I believe that as
a group we
should ask TV and radio stations to stop accepting these
companies ads. If
that is not feasible we should ask those media outlets to run
public service
announcements detailing the characteristics of fraudulent
invention
promoters.
Since Mr. Berger has raised his ugly head on our turf, I believe
we should
give his operation special consideration during this campaign.

Ron,
>I nearly always agree with you, but in this case I think we
should let
the fox out of the chicken coop long enough to be thoroughly
exposed to
the invention community.
There is nothing I hate more than admitting I am wrong, but I was
in this
case. Savor the moment because I try to avoid such
admissions.
I have spent all day networking with the inventor community and
contacting
media. It seems that Mr. Berger has also been trying
intimidate Joanne
Hayes-Rines.
Also, I have highlighted all the references to Mr. Berger and his
associates
in RED on my caution page www.rjriley.com/caution/
, to allow readers to
more easily identify the related parties.
